Game 15 - Pens 7, Red Wings 6 - Sweet Revenge!

Interview with Hossa at the beginning as expected.

First Period
The game starts out a bit slow, both teams feeling each other out, Malkin’s line gets some pressure early.

Crosby gets a chance going down the center, but the puck gets chipped to the corner.

Talbot forces a turnover, he passes it back to Satan, he put it right in front for Crosby, he puts it home. 1-0 Pens, what a great way to start the game.

Red wings get a hooking penalty, pens on the power play. Pens look good on the power play, but don’t convert. Red wings get a 2 on 1 but Goligoski makes a great diving play. Red wings kill off the rest of the power play.

Goddard somehow gets an elbowing penalty, red wings on the power play. Red wings don’t get much on the power play. Scuderi gets hit with a slap shot in the foot, looks like someone took out hit legs the way he goes down. Hope he is ok.

Zetterberg gets behind the pens defense, but Fluery makes a great save. Wings get a few more good chances but Fluery is solid.

Wings take a shot from the point, Talbot blocks it, Letang hit the puck up with his hand, it somehow goes to McCarty and he beats Fluery. 1-1 Game.

Ziggs gets a tripping penalty, wings back on the power play. Pens are looking good on the PK, but Lindstrom takes a slap shot from the point and Holmstrom deflects it past Fluery. 2-1 wings.

A lot of back and forth action, not a huge amount of chances. Pens get a hooking penalty, red wings on the power again. End of the first.

Intermission

Ryan Malone Versus commercial, its not up yet on YouTube, hopefully someone can find it for us.

Second Period
Wings start the second on the power play. Wings pass it into the middle, it goes off a Orpik, goes to Hudler and he passes it Franzen, 3-1 wings. Letang gets a high sticking penalty somehow, wings back on the power play. Pens kill off the penalty.

Sykora gets to an open puck behind the red wings net, he just puts it in front and it goes in. 3-2 wings.

Pens looking better now, they get a 3 on 2 but it does not develope. The draw a hooking penalty, pens on the power play. Hossa gets around Goligoski on the PK, he gets a shot on Fluery, but Fluery makes the save. Wings kill off the rest of the penalty.

Crosby gets a gets a great backhand chance, but Osgood makes a good save.

Goddard runs over Kronwall. News comes that Scuderi would not return in the game tonight, not good.

Looks like the guys at Versus just made a mistake going to a commercial…what a joke of a network.

Pens can’t get the puck out of their own zone, Hossa passes it to Datsyuk, he takes a big 1-time slap shot, 4-2 wings.

Lindstrom gets hit by 2 pens at the end of the second.

Third Period
Datsyuk gets a great chance, but fluery makes a great save.

Crosby takes a penalty, wings on the power play. Hudler comes into the pens zone, he flips a pass over the Zetterberg, and scores. 5-2 wings.

Franzen takes a penalty, pens on the power play. Filppula takes a penalty, pens have a 5 on 3. Osgood makes a sick save on Sykora…pens take a timeout with 50 seconds left on the 5 on 3. Crosby gets the puck he slap-passes it to Satan down low, he quickly passes it up Malkin, sick wrist shot, goal. 5-3 wings.

Cooke causes a turn over by the wings, the puck comes to Ziggs he makes a great pass to Staal. He backhands it into the net! 5-4 wings. Now we have a game.

Hudler takes a huge slapshot, Fluery gets a piece of it but it gets by him. 6-4 wings.

Pens get some good chances in front of Osgood, but no luck.

Pens finally get some pressure on the red wings, Letang gets the puck at the point, he shoots it towards the net, it hits someone in front and Staal gets the rebound and scores. 6-5 wings.

Crosby gets another good chance, but Osgood makes the save.

With a minute left to go the pens pull the goalie. They get some insane chances, Crosby gets a pass and does a spin backhander and Osgood makes a great save. Wings use their timeout. Ziggs wins the faceoff, it goes back to Goligoski he passes it to Malkin he fires it towards the net, Staal gets the rebound and scores! TIE GAME!!! I’m pretty sure you could hear me screaming down the street! That’s a hat-trick for Staal tonight!

Overtime
Pens start the overtime 4 on 3. Pens are really trying to win this game, Malkin misses the net on a huge slap shot, I though that was the game there!

The wings are coming up the ice, Staal pickpockets Datsyuk out of nowhere, he passes it to Fedotenko he puts it home! PENS WIN 7-6!!!!!!!

Game Thoughts
This by far is the best hockey game I’ve seen all season, I’m sure most people who have watched it felt that way. It was funny that so many people left the game towards the end of the third thinking it was over, looks like they were wrong, who leaves a hockey game early anyways, what a joke. Staal was a beast tonight, not only did he have a hat-trick he setup and assisted on the game winning goal on overtime. It’s great to see him have a game like this, funny how a few weeks ago everyone was saying get rid of him. The pens really played a full 60 mintues tonight, they came back down 5-2, then 6-4 and were able to tie the game with only 23 seconds left in the game. Then in overtime they were able to put it away. Definitely sweet revenge for the pens tonight!!

Thank god the next 2 games will be on FSN, I can’t stand Versus!
