Game 13 Pens 5, Oilers 4

During pregame they say that Ryan Whitney is skating now, good to see him coming along.

First Period
Fluery makes a sick save point blank early.

Crosby gets the puck right in front of the net, Garon makes a great save. Crosby gets the puck back behind the net, he takes it out front, and it looks like he is about to bury it, but somehow Garon gets the puck.

Goddard and MacIntyre square off. MacIntyre gets some quick shots in but Goddard gets him good towards the end of the fight, Goddard wins.

Pens takes a penalty, Oilers on the power play. The get a few chances, but pens kill off the penalty.

Pens are killing the Oilers in the their own zone, they can’t get the puck out. Orpik takes a shot from the point, it goes wide the rebound comes to Satan and he does his best Crosby impression by putting the puck in between his legs and shoots the puck in the net. 1-0 Pens, sick.

The pens are cycling the puck great in the Oilers zone, they are having a hard time trying to get the puck out of their zone. Great to see the pens playing like this.

Pens take another penalty, Oilers on the power play. Oilers get a few shots, Crosby and Talbot get a 2 on 1, Crosby goes for the shot, the rebound comes out Talbot he gets enough on it to get a past Garon, 2-0 pens.

Letang takes the puck out of the pens zone and he gets leveled by MacIntyre, get goes off the ice slowly. Goddard gets in MacIntyre’s face, but takes a penalty.

Intermission

Food Break!

Second Period

Crosby, Satan, and Talbot look really good together.

Pens are passing really good, Malkin gets a quick shot away, Garon makes the save.

Gill takes a penalty, Oilers on the power play. Horcoff takes a quick 1-timer, Fluery makes the save. Pens kill off the penalty.

Talbot’s line is still looking sick, they get a few really good chances.

They show Robbie brown in between plays, we all remember Ron Hextall chasing him after he scored…lol

Pens have control in the Oilers zone once again. Goligoski, passes it over to Malkin, he 1 times a slap shot hit goes off Satan’s stick and in 3-0 pens.

Oilers take a penalty, pens on the power play. They get a few chances, but cannot convert. Oilers get a 2 on 1 at the end of the penalty, Fluery makes a great save.

Pens win a faceoff in the Oilers zone, Malkin gets the puck and he passes it to Sykora, 4-0 pens.

Pens are totally owning the Oilers in their zone, Oilers take a penalty, pens on the power play. Letang passes it over Malkin, he 1-times it, the rebound come to Sykora 5-0 pens.

Oilers bring in their back-up goalie….his last name is to long for me to type. Oilers get some momentum and get a few good chances, but Fluery is there.

Oilers bascially jam the net, Pisani gets a backhander and it makes it past Fluery, 5-1 pens.

End of the second.

Third Period
Penner decides to hit Orpik after the whistle. Pens on the power play. Pens get some really good chances but the Oilers kill off the penalty.

Oilers come down into the pens zone they take a shot and it goes off a penguin in from 5-2 pens.

Pens give the puck away, Hempsky makes a great play and it end up in a great goal, 5-3 pens, what the hell is going on.

Gilbert gets destroyed by Cooke, its getting nasty. Cooke and some bum from the Oilers square off, decent fight. Pens get a 5 minute power play….haha.

Pens are getting some shots, there is a scrum infront of the net, Kennedy and Cole get into it. Pens playing 5 on 3 now. Pens get chances, talbot hits the post, no goal on a 5 on 3, sad.

Souray comes out of the box, he has a breakaway, goal, 5-4 pens. That’s 4 unanswered goals for the Oilers, pens third period problems again.

Pens put their 4th line out there, they get a few shots, good shift they have to slow down this Oiler team.

Oilers are pressing the pens, a lot of close chances. An Oiler shoots the puck over the class, pens on the power play. Pens get a few chances, but the pens don’t convert.

Around 45 seconds left in the game, Oilers pull the goalie. Pens ice the puck, faceoff in the pens zone, 6 on 5. Oilers can’t get a shot on the Gill clears it, it hits off the side of the net. 1.2 seconds left. Oilers somehow almost score with 1.2 seconds left, but they don’t. 5-4 final.

Game Thoughts
The pens played a great game up until the end of the second period. It was all pens early, I’m sure most people thought this game was in the bag after the second period, but the pens were sloppy in the third. The Oilers came back with 4 unanswered goals, the pens couldn’t convert on a 2 minute 5 on 3! It almost felt like the pens were letting this one slip away like the Rangers game, but they held on and managed to get the 2 points and the win. Crosby, Satan, and Talbot looked great tonight, so did the Malkin and Sykora line. The pens still need to learn to not give up a lead. Good game, go pens!
