The Pens are in New Jersey tonight to take on the Devils at 7PM. The Pens are coming off another bad loss at home, they need to play a solid game tonight. Since the Pens have been losing the Devils have moved up in the standings to 6th place in the east and 4th in the Atlantic. Brodeur is still out for the Devils, but that has not made that much of an impact as Clemmensen has played well. The Pens demoted fowards Jeff Taffe and Tim Wallace, but has also called up
Paul Bissonnette and Dustin Jeffery. It will be interesting to see where they fit into the lineup. Hopefully the Penguins can strike first and keep a lead in this one, Go Pens!!

That’s right Ryan Malone will make his return to the Igloo tonight as the Pens take on the Lightning at 7:30 tonight. The Pens are coming off a good road overtime win against the Buffalo Sabres last night. This is a back to back game so we will see how the Pens perform. Ryan Whitney will be making his return to the lineup tonight, because of that Letang is out. Stone has also been sent back down to the AHL.
Hrmm there really is not much to say about the Lightning, they are not having a good season at all sitting in 14th place in the east, they have only won 7 games all season so far. Things are not good in Tampa at all. With that said I wouldn’t totally count them out, the Pens have had trouble with them in the past and the Pens haven’t been playing their best hockey as of late so we will have to see how the game goes. Go Pens!!

The Pens took the 4 hour bus ride out to Buffalo to take on the Sabres tonight. They are coming off an
embarrassing 7-3 loss against the Leafs at home. I’m sure all of us including the Pens player want to forget about that game. With that loss that gave the Pens a 17-11-4 record coming into tonight’s game, which puts them in 7th in the east and 4th place in the Atlantic division. I would expect them to play hard after that tough loss at home.
Dupuis will be in the lineup tonight so we might see some points out of the Crosby line. Hopefully the Pens will get some offense going and not make stupid plays this game.
The Sabres are only 2 points behind the Pens in the east with 36 points. The Pens lost 4-3 in the last meeting between the 2 teams so I’m not sure what is going to happen considering how the Pens have been playing. The game is on Versus tonight so expect to see some really crappy commentating. Puck drops at 7:08PM, Go Pens!!

The Leafs are in town tonight to take on the Pens at 7PM. The Leafs sit in 11th place in the east, 8 points behind the Pens with a 12-13-6 record. They have won 3 of their last 4 games. Goaltending has been a bit shaky for the Leafs so no word on who will get the start tonight, Joseph or Toskala. The last time the Leafs played the Pens they
lost 4-1, it was the game were Crosby scored his 100th career goal, 200th career assist and 300th point.
The Pens are coming off a 6-3 win in Atlanta on Thursday night. The Leafs should be a bit more of a challenge to the Pens then the Thrashers were, it will be a good game for sure. As expected Fluery will get the start tonight. Talbot will be back in the lineup tonight, Dupuis and Ziggomanis are still out. The Pens will be wearing their powder blue jerseys tonight, Go Pens!
Pens Headlines
- Talking about Talbot he inked a new 2 year extension that will keep him a Penguin until 2010-11.
- Ryan Whitney has been assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL for conditioning purposes. We will play in tonight’s game against the Albany River Rats.
- The Pens also traded prospect Jonathan Filewich to the St. Louis Blue for a conditional draft pick in 2010.

The Pens will faceoff against the Flyers today at 1PM in Philly. Unlike most people I am actually a fan of Saturday afternoon games. It is nice spending an afternoon watching hockey. This Flyers team is much different than the team we played back in November. They have really picked up their season and are now in 5th place in the east and second in the Atlantic division. In their last game they came back from a 5-1 Hurricanes lead to
beat them in the shootout. Surprisingly Scott Hartnell had a hat trick in that game! It should be a good match up for sure and whoever wins will take over that second place spot in the Atlantic division.
Maxime Talbot will not be in today’s game as he suffered an undisclosed injury in Thursday’s game against the Islanders. Yesterday Fluery was given a clean bill of health from the Pens staff and is ready to play. There is no word yet on who will get the start today, the Pens website has Sabu as the starter, but no official word yet. Because Fluery is healthy Curry has been sent back to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton along with Chris Minard. The Pens have recalled Connor James though, we has 17 points (10 goals, seven assists) in 26 games with the baby Pens. Puck drops at 1PM, Go Pens!
The News Reel
The NHL have released a rendering of what the rink for the 2009 Winter Classic will look like at Wrigley Field. I’m not sure if I like hockey on a baseball diamond or a football field better. You can check out the rendering below or watch them explain it on the NHL Network Online.
Mike Brophy checks out some of the great deals you can get on hockey tickets around the League. The Panthers are a great example, you get a $5 gas card, free parking and a Coca-cola combo meal. You get all of this for a whopping $17! Funny that they show a picture from Mellon arena in the article, we have no problem selling out the Igloo. The picture has to be old!
A great story out of DC, since Jose Therdore is out with a hip flexor the Capitals called on their Web site producer Brett Leonhardt as an emergency backup goalie for Brent Johnson against the Ottawa Senators on Friday. You can check out the after-game interview here.
And to end the news reel for today how about a Winter Classic 2009 trailer…
